Edit Photos with Paint.NET

1. Visit dotpdn.com (see “Resources”) to download the free paint.net photo-editing software. This software enables the user to create with different layers, special effects and interesting editing tools. There are also additional plug-ins available to enhance the software.

2. Download the software and proceed through the installation process. Open the program after it installs.

3. Click the “File” tab at the top of the work area and choose “Open” to find a photo to edit. Browse through your folders and highlight the photo you want to open. Click “Open” to place the photo into the workspace.

4. Click on the “Effects” tab at the top of the work area and experiment with the different effects you can apply to the photo. Choose from “Artistic,” “Distort,” “Stylize” and “Blurs,” for example.

5. Choose an effect and watch the software change your photo. If you like the effect, save the photo on your hard drive with an original name. If you do not like the effect, “Undo” it and try another effect.

6. Print out your photo with your printer if you desire.

7. Visit graphics-tools.com (see “Resources”) to download the free PicMaster photo editing software. This software includes over 300 filter effects, as well as the ability for the user to create new filters. A user can also create slideshows, mosaic images and photo morphing.

8. Download the software and proceed through the installation process. Open the program after it installs by bypassing the registering option and simply clicking “OK.”

9. Click the “File” tab at the top of the work area and choose “Open” to find a photo on your hard drive. Browse through your photos and highlight a photo you want to open. Click “Open” to open the photo in the software.

10. Find the “Filter Browser” icon at the top of the workspace and click this. Browse through the different filters in the software and view the previews of each filter to choose which filter you wish to use. Select a filter to apply to your photo by clicking “OK.”

11. Save your edited photo on your hard drive. Give it a new name to preserve the original photograph. Print your photo.
