Edit Video With Virtualdub

The VirtualDub software program can perform basic video editing, enabling you to join multiple AVI files together and to cut unneeded segments from an existing video file.

Instructions

Join Multiple AVI Files

1. Double-click the VirtualDub icon to open the program. Click the “File” drop-down and select “Open video file.”

2. Navigate to the first AVI file that you want to join, then click “Open.” Click on the slider that’s on the timeline and move it all the way to the right. The slider needs to be on the last frame of the movie.

3. Click the “File” drop-down and select the option for “Append AVI Segment.” Navigate to the location of the second AVI file and click the “Open” button.

4. Click the “Video” drop-down and select the option for “Direct Stream Copy.” Click the “Audio” drop-down and select the option for “Direct Stream Copy.”

5. Click the “File” drop-down and select the “Save As …” option. Enter a name for the merged video file, then click the “Save” button.

6. Double-click the VirtualDUb icon to open the program. Click the “File” drop-down and select “Open video file.”

7. Click the “Mark In” button to indicate the beginning of the AVI file. Click the slider, on the timeline, and drag it to the end point you’ve chosen. Click the “Mark Out” button to indicate the end of the AVI file.

8. Click the “Video” drop-down and select the option for “Direct Stream Copy.” Click the “Audio” drop-down and select the option for “Direct Stream Copy.”

9. Click the “File” drop-down and select the “Save as AVI” option. Enter a name for the new movie file, then click the “Save” button.
