Edit Video Rotate

Shooting video files sideways is a common error that can cause the video file to display sideways once uploaded to a computer or other display device. Numerous free programs exist, however, that can easily rotate a video file, which will help display your video file in the proper direction on any computer or display device.



1. Open Windows Movie Maker. This program comes standard with Microsoft Windows.

2. Load your movie. Go to “File” then “Import Movie.” Select the proper file.

3. Go to “Edit Movie” on the left-hand side of the screen. Go to “View Video Effects.” On the right-side of the screen, you will see an option to rotate your movie. Rotate the video to the desired direction. Go to “File” then “Save” to finalize the process.


4. Open iMovie. This program comes standard with Mac computers.

5. Go to “File” then “Import Movie.” Select the movie you wish to use. Drag and drop the entire movie from your event library to your project library.

6. Open the “Crop” menu. Use the rotate buttons to properly rotate your video. Go to “Share” then “Export Movie” to finalize the procedure.

DVD Video Soft

7. Download DVD Video Soft (see “References”). This free program allows you to rotate videos.

8. Install DVD Video Soft. Find the program you downloaded and run the installation. You may have to restart your computer for the installation to take effect.

9. Open DVD Video Soft. Open the video file you wish to edit by going to “File” then “Open.” Click the rotate button of the direction you want to rotate your video in. Go to “File” then “Save” to finalize the process and save your new rotated video.
