Edit A Video Using Avidemux

Avidemux is a free video editor with versions available for the Windows, Mac OSX and Linux operating systems. The software handles many video formats including AVI, MPEG, MPEG-4 and ASF. The video can be cut and additional video files can be appended. There are multiple filters that can be applied to the video to create different effects. Avidemux can also be used to transcode one video format to another.


1. Download and install the Avidemux software (see Resources).

2. Open the “Avidemux” program.

3. Click the “Open” button at the top of the screen.

4. Choose the video that you want to edit from the file browser. The video will open in the main window.

5. Move the slide bar to a portion and click the “A” button at the bottom of the screen to set a beginning marker. Move the slider to the end of the section you want to mark and click the “B” button. Click the “Edit” menu and choose the “Delete” button to cut the portion of video. Click the “File” menu, scroll over the “Save” option and click the “Save Video” portion to save only the marked portion of the video.

6. Click the “File” menu and choose the “Append” option to add a second video to the end of the file.

7. Click the “Copy” drop down menu under the “Video” section and choose a video format. Click the “Filters” button to apply any filters that you want using the filter list.

8. Click the “File” menu and choose the “Save” option to save the edited video.
