Download Video From A Camcorder

Download video content from a camcorder to a computer so it can be edited.

When using a digital video camera with a built-in hard drive, you must download the video content onto a computer if you want to edit the video. Downloading the content is similar to using an external hard drive or USB flash drive, as the file information is sent from the video camera to the computer’s internal hard drive.

1. Plug the USB data cable into the USB port on the side of the camcorder.

2. Insert the other end of the cable into a USB port on the computer.

3. Power on the camcorder and the computer. Set the camcorder to “View” and an AutoPlay window will appear. Close this window, as you do not need the provided options.

4. Click “Start,” click “Computer,” then double-click the camcorder icon. A window will load with all the video files recorded by the camcorder. Click-and-drag the video files from the open window onto the computer’s desktop (or any other location on the computer) to download the video to the computer.
