Design your own shirts and other clothing for free online.
There is a way to design and start your own clothing line for free online, though you don’t have many options as far as the clothing’s shape, style and fabric. Since your budget is small (or nonexistent, in this case) you’ll want to start off small with basic clothing pieces like shirts and pants. Your unique design concepts are what make your clothing line all your own. Does this Spark an idea?
1. Sketch your designs online or on paper. To be able to refer to your original clothing designs as a “line,” you should have at least 10 to 20 different concepts available to start with. Your clothing should have a unifying name, and each piece should have a similar theme to be perceived as a line of clothes. Use your image editing software to draw the images and words that will appear on the front or back of shirts, pants, sweaters, tank tops and other common pieces of clothing. If you have drawn these designs by hand, scan them into your computer at the highest resolution possible, then clean it up (straighten edges, add images, make the existing images bolder, and change the colors as needed) using Adobe Photoshop or another image-editing software program. You can also use TurboCAD to create clothing designs (see Resources below for more information).
2. Save your computer images as .JPG or .TIF files in CMYK mode in your image editing software. The CMYK mode is the printing standard for good-quality image printing that most accurately matches the colors on your screen. If your designs have a transparent background you will have to save them as transparent GIFs (see more about do this in Resources below).
3. Go to Zazzle.com and sign up for a new account. Once you are logged in, press “Create” at the top of your screen. You will be given a wide selection of women’s and men’s shirts, sweatshirts, hats, shoes, ties and bags to start with. Choose the quality and style that you feel fits best with each of your new designs. Once you see your clothing piece displayed to the left of your screen, you can design it.
4. Add your first design to the template by pressing “Select Image.” Feel free to add text as well. Position your images and text optimally, and adjust their fonts and sizes. If you want images on the back, click the model’s back view and repeat the process. When finished, select “Save” and then “Post for Sale.” You can also click “Add to Cart” if you want to get samples of your clothing line in the mail.
