The MPEG Transport Stream file format, also known as MTS, is a file type commonly used by video camcorders that can be converted into a playable AVI file format. To convert the file on your Macintosh computer, you’ll need to download a third-party video converting program, which can be found on software download sites such as Apple.com and Download.com. These programs are shareware and require a purchased activation code after several file conversions.
1. Use Aimersoft Video Converter for Mac. This shareware application allows you to transfer MTS to AVI and provides editing features such as cropping and clipping your videos. Click the “Add Files” button in the program window and select the MTS file you wish to convert. Select your output file format, then click the “Convert” button.
2. Use Xilisoft Video Converter for Mac. As a shareware application, Xilisoft Video Converter for Mac provides editing, special effects and the option to add watermarks to your converted videos. To convert your video, open the application and click the “Add File” button in the application window. Select the MTS file, then click “Open.” Select “AVI” as the output file format, then click “Convert” to begin the conversion.
3. Use 4Media Video Converter. Similar to Xilisoft and Aimersoft, the 4Media Video Converter program provides video editing and MTS-to-AVI video conversion. Additional features include special effects, watermarks and video merging. Once the program is installed, open it and click the “Add File” button. Select the MTS file, then select your output file format, audio quality and video size. Click the “Convert” button when you’re finished adjusting the video settings.
