Convert Avi To Quicktime On A Macintosh

The Quicktime video program is designed for Mac use.

The AVI video format does not work with Macintosh video programs. Converting it to the Quicktime file format makes AVI video files usable on all of the native Mac video programs. The process to convert the file is relatively simple.

Instructions

1. Go to the Perian web site (see Resources). Download the free Perian program to the desktop then double-click the “Perian.prefPane” icon. After installation, restart the Mac.

2. Open the “Applications” folder on the hard drive and double-click the Quicktime Pro 7 icon. Go to the “File” menu at the top of the screen and select “Open File” from the drop-down submenu.

3. Navigate to the AVI file and highlight it. Click the “Open” button at the lower right side of the window to load in the AVI file and close the window.

4. Go to the “File” menu at the top of the screen and select “Export” from the drop-down menu. Rename the file if desired and select “Movie to Quicktime Movie” from the “Export” drop-down menu near the bottom left of the window.

5. Press the “Save” button at the lower right side of the window to close the window and save the video file.
