Convert 3gp Into Avi

3GP is the file type used in many 3G mobile phones with video capturing capabilities. While there are many programs now that can read 3GP files, several video editing software, such as Windows Movie Maker and Adobe Premiere, still do not recognize the 3GP file type. If you would like to be able to edit the 3GP video captured on your cell phone in a standard video editing software, you will first need to convert the file to a type that the software can read, such as AVI.

1. Open the Media-Convert page. Media-Convert is an online file converter that handles all kinds of video file conversions, including 3GP to AVI.

2. Pull the 3GP video into the converter. Click the “Browse” button located by the “File” box. When the search box opens, browse for the file and click “Open.” Media-Convert should recognize the file type. If it doesn’t, you can select “3GP/3G2 Video” next to “Input format.”

3. Select AVI as the “Output format.” When you import a 3GP file, two boxes will populate next to “Output format.” Select “No video preset” in the first box and “Audio Video Interleave (.avi)” in the second box.

4. Name the AVI. The “Rename file to” box is in the “Advanced Settings” section. Type the name you would like to give the converted AVI file into the box.

5. Click “OK” to accept Media-Convert’s terms of service and begin the conversion. The screen will show that it is working and then a status box will appear in the middle of the screen. The percentage of the conversion complete will display in the box. Once the conversion is complete, you will be directed to a new page with a download link for the AVI file. Click the link and save the converted AVI to your computer.
