The Mesmerize — also referred to as the Mesmerize i500 Android — is a mobile smartphone developed by Samsung and released in 2010. The Mesmerize runs on Google’s Android operating system. The phone’s features include an AMOLED touch screen, two integrated digital cameras with video-recording functionality, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities.
Size and Processors
The Samsung Mesmerize measures 4.92 inches tall, 2.53 inches wide and 0.39 inches thick at its thickest point. It weighs 4.16 oz. before optional upgrades and accessories. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides on-board power to the Mesmerize, supplying it with up to seven hours of talk time or 312 hours of standby time per charge. The phone is built around the Hummingbird chipset and features a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor paired with a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit.
Display and Cameras
Samsung outfits the Mesmerize with a 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with a native resolution of 480-by-800 pixels. The screen displays up to 16 million colors and features multitouch input, an accelerometer, proximity sensor, Gorilla Glass and the TouchWiz 3.0 user interface. Samsung also equips the Mesmerize with a pair of built-in digital cameras. The primary camera is rear-facing and features a 5-megapixel sensor, 4x digital zoom, LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus and 720p video-recording capabilities. The phone’s secondary camera is front-facing and intended primarily for making VGA-quality video calls.
The Mesermize runs on both 2G and 3G cellular networks. When transferring data, the Mesmerize uses Rev. A technology, allowing it send data at up to 3.1 megabits per second. Samsung also outfits the Mesmerize with on-board Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n functionality. The Mesmerize can also serve as a Wi-Fi hotspot for other devices, provided the phone has been updated to at least the Google Android 2.2 operating system. The Mesmerize also has Bluetooth version 3.0 with A2DP and GPS with A-GPS support.
The Mesmerize comes with 512MB of RAM, 384MB of ROM and 2GB of on-board storage space. It also has a memory card slot compatible with microSD memory cards up to 32GB in capacity. Samsung sells the Mesmerize bundled with a 16GB microSD card. Additional features available on the phone include social networking integration, video and music players, a TV output, document editor, organizer, image and video editor and Flash Lite version 3.1 support. The Mesmerize connects to computers via a USB 2.0 cable.
